The City of Bogalusa Jail houses up to 36 prisoners for misdemeanor offenses. Officers who are assigned to the jail monitor the surveillance cameras in the jail and around the entire police complex at all times.

Correctional officers are certified in Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.). The correctional peace officers search inmates, obtain information for booking forms, dispense food and other necessities to inmates, collect and store inmates' property, collect bonds, and coordinate visitation of inmates. The officers can also
fingerprint prisoners electronically by using a computer program called the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (A.F.I.S.). Individuals in custody place their hands on a screen, which scans their fingerprints. The City Jail also fingerprints citizens who are required to have their fingerprints documented for a minor fee.
