Bogalusa's Visitor Guest Book Year 2006 Name: CJ CommentsWhat a Saints game on 11DEC! I flew my Dad over to San Antonio, from Washington Parish, then we drove up to Dallas for the game. It seemed that we had at least 10,000 Saints fans there! The Cowboy fans around us couldn't believe the "Deuce" and "Reggie" cheers they were hearing. I'll never forget how loud our "Defense" cheers were on their 3rd downs. We took over the stadium, and the game! Name: SARAH PAULSSON CommentsI MISS THAT PLACE MY WHOLE FAMILY LIVES THERE LOVE YALL Name: Leanne CommentsHi Bogalusa!!! I am a 22 year old born and raised in bogalusa. I love this town but see it slowly becoming a "black hole." This town has so much potential but yet it is wasted on corruption of both city workers, law enforcement, and political "LEADERS." Just like every other small rual town it is hard to bring in big business were there is no growth or development. The educational system is a joke, when school leaders cant seem to come to agree on anything how do you expect student to respect authority. There is no more punishment for the crime. Things are brushed off and thought of as out of sight out of mind. Well its time to wake up Bogalusa. If you would like your children raised in a place that is going down the drain then continue to do nothing, but if you would like a change GET INVOLVED: clean your street, take pride in your home, get involved with your children because teachers can only do so much. I am sad to say that the once beautiful holmes down AVE B have almost all been neglected and just a disgrace to the community. It's time that politicians stop playing golf, stop talking about what "your going to do" and start doing it. Who cares if you step on some toes, sometimes things just have to be changed and i personally along with many others think it's about time!!!!! Another thing I remember being a little girl and shopping on columbia st. at J.C.Penny's. Now this once historic, thriving downtown has been corrupted by crime, lack of care, and many buildings have been abandoned. Now riddle me this, if I am 22 years old and can remember when Bogalusa WAS something then think about the way your childeren will remember this town. Let's give our children the opportunities that all other children have lets not hold them back, they may be the hope for this community. The sad thing is I can spill my guts out about what I think should be changed, but you know changing the enviroment will not change the people. Some people in this town are the sweetest people you will every meet but there are some with a chip on there shoulder and some that just have no respect for you are anyone else. Well it's up to you Bogalusa. What will YOU do??????? Name: Jimpson CommentsI enjoy your site very much! Name: Sam & Angela Mason CommentsWe are excited to be a host family for your Bogalusa football team when they come here on Sept. 4th to play our son's team Bonita Vista!!!!! Name: Byron East CommentsI was an announcer at WIKC in 1962. Does anyone have any info on the followin... -Ron Hunter (Bill Seiglin) -anyone who worked at the station during the elections of '62 -Kurt Seiglin -Cooter Branch (deceased I think) -Linda Tannahill (sp.) I really enjoyed working in "Big B". I was there during some mighty interesting times. I remember sitting in the red bird cafe several evenings and watching the Klan burn a cross across the way. I remember covering a wreck one time with Ron. It was a bad one, several teenagers (if I remember correctly were killed). I sure remember Sun, La. I left money with their law enforcement several times. Once cost me $25.00 for going "two miles an hour above the posted speed limit". They had a radar gun at the time. I remember doing a remote broadcast from the Pink Cork Package Liq. Store. They found out I was from "dry" (at the time) Mississippi and I think the whole town came by to welcome me. I remember the running joke at time...Why are there no cats in Bogalusa? the answer was...because they all died trying to cover up Crown-Zellerbach. I was only there for a short while, but I really did enjoy the city and it's people while I was. Name: Harold Rogers CommentsFirst time visitor to your website. Great site. Keep up the good work. Name: Brandon Horne CommentsI just wanted to say hello to all those in bogalusa and I wanted to say that I have been tracking my mother looking to meet her for the first time. The reason I write is that the last place I tracked her to was Bogalusa. She married a man from there.about 2 or 3 years ago Her name was Susan Horne before she married If anybody knows her write me Name: Sherri Johnson CommentsI like your site. My husband and I will be moving to your town. I was wondering if the town was damaged very much from Katrina, and also, if there are any homes for rent there. My husband is a counselor. Name: Robert Calmes CommentsI'm glad Donna marie Barker spoke her mind. Bogalusa is a beautiful place with a lot of potential. People need to wake up. Name: Donnamarie Barker Commentshi fellow Bogalusa residents, new and old alike. I have lived here for two years now and I plan to stay for the rest of my life. But I must say many days my heart is saddened by the way people who live here have developed a feeling of getting no-where, and hopelessness. I am also shocked at the many comments I have heard about corruption, the unbelieveable "political" powers, the black and white thing, which I find much less a problem here than in many of your urban developed areas of the north, (at least here I can live where I want to if I have money, and up north, it is discouraged!!) and lastly, I am even deeper in disbelief at the way that children are ignored in this community. Now don't get me wrong, equally I have found the same number of people who have enbraced our children with kindness and respect, but they too are discouraged by the conditions and state of our children. There are people here that feel the same way I do and won't say anything cause it rocks the boat, so to speak. But, Bogalusa it is time to come to an understanding....This town has gone thru many challenges, as history has shown, way back to 1906 and even before. This community has much to offer, but we are not working together! There are those who are trying to overcome for the good of theirselves, not the whole. Think about this, what if all old ugly vacant homes were torn down and there was green space or lots to build better homes for people. What if the homes which date back to the 1900's were put on the historical register and the relics of old days was turned into museums? What if people wanted to come from all around the world, just to spend their money here to see the movements of history which has been recorded? Our native American Indians, the Lumber, the Civil Rights Movements, the rail system, our waterways, I could go on ......Wouldn't it be wonderful to have clean parks for the children, places of education they could be proud of instead of the oldest schools I have ever seen in all my adult life!!!! I saw better looking schools in Belize Mexico, a third world area than what they have here!! What happen to grants and why do areas around us have better schools when we have one of the largest mills in the world sitting right-smak-dap in the middle of town making millions of dollars!!!! If we have to endure smelling that thing, and they continue making all that money off of us, why can't they help to fund a grant writer and get our children decent schools!!!?! Well, I see potential, but I guess you don't or maybe it's just worked better this way for all these years?....NOT....I do hope that your drive to bring business works because it is needed. Remember, in order for people in other places to want to come here, they will want to SEE a cleaner more positive community, they will bring their families to schools which are where....in rank?, they will want their children to play where?, get BUSY Bogalusa and think about the real potential we have here. We could all be much better off, much happier, and certainly could treat our children with a LOT more respect!!! If we don't value them, the future of Bogalusa will only go down hill and no one from the rest of the world will want to come and join this stagnation. Please think about it HUH? Name: amanda Commentsso i would like to hear the new bogalusa means business jingle, lol! bogalusa is so stupid sometimes but it will always be home, o yeah by the way mayor mcghee, is it a election year or what, its about time for you to move on with your life and give someone else a turn. We have just agreed to the management position for disaster relief for the Triangle of Hope Ministries. We will fly in on April 18. I hope to meet some of your great citizens when we get there. We want to Restore House, Restore Lives & Restore Hope. God Bless See you soon Henry & Wilma Name: Lee Kelley CommentsAs a former resident of Bogalusa, I would love to stay abreast of the city council's activity post-hurricane. It would be really great to see the City Council post the minutes of their meetings on this site so that people that may be interested in the area can see how business is handled. This is especially important following Hurricane Katrina. C'mon council, do the right thing! Name: Christy Lynn Magee CommentsHey there, Bogalusa!! I was just trying to find a site for L & C and came across this. I seen where the lady wanted info on bogalusa and wanted to know more about housing and employment, well, it is hard enough for residents to get jobs, much less anyone else. Check out the unemployment rate. Cleaner air?? Lets see, we had a horrible chemical explosion about 10 yrs. ago. We have a paper mill just like in west monroe.....so you know the air is not that clean. In fact, it is worse in bogalusa than there. Smells like pure sewage. But it is home to me and I guess it always will be. Jobs are scarce, but drugs flow freely here, near about every corner. My great grandma is in columbia, and I visit there often. I know bogalusa is worse than west monroe. Our biggest store to shop at is a baby wal mart. Good luck with your search though. Try covington or maybe hammond. you can email me at christylynn72085@yahoo.com or maybe brown659@bellsouth.net. Would love to hear back! 985-294-6987 Name: Marko CommentsHi. Name: Will CommentsJust thinking about the town and all the good times I had when I was living there. This is were I grew up and it will always be in my heart for ever. Hope everyone back home is doing well. Name: Sonia (Borde) Morales CommentsHi - great site! I am from Bogalusa originally and now live and work in West Baton Rouge Parish. I was "home" last weekend and attended the Krewe of MCCA parade and visited with my mother and other friends/family still living there. It was the first time I had been home since 2 days after Hurricane Katrina and was a bit overwhelmed by how it all looked 6 months later. Still blue tarps, snapped pine trees, and debris everywhere......... As I was heading out yesterday afternoon, I became a bit teary-eyed and overwhelmed by the fact that, with everything you guys have been through, the level of enthusiasm among the citizens there was so high at the Krewe of MCCA parade - nasty weather and everything! I left with a good feeling that, even with everything my old hometown of Bogalusa has been through, it is still standing tall........just like the strong, stately pine trees that survived the storm. Hang in there! Sonia (Borde) Morales Name: Michelle Keil CommentsI was raised in Bogalusa in the Mitch community by my grandparents; Eddie and Celestina M.
